EXP 3 : MashUp

For architecture, sunlight is more than energy efficiency.

Architecture and Environment, have always been two issues of mutual opposition and complement. Environment, as a kind of void, spreads outside the entity, having its own expression, and at the same time bears different functions. Hence, our environment seems to be very diverse with the duality of light and shadow. Imagine a house without windows, without daylight. It would be a nightmare, however, the consideration of daylight is about much more than energy efficiency.
Humans have acknowledged the beauty of sunlight in architecture. Sunlight has proven to be an excellent formgiver, with which architecture can create dynamic environments. The architect makes a gesture of directness and romanticism  by experience daylight in three ways — the light from the sky, the light from the sun and the view. Observing daylight, we encounter the possibility of two extremes: direct sunlight, with clear blue skies and the diffuse cloudy sky as a counterpoint. They both lead to very different feelings and associations. Yet windows are not solely about looking out. emphasizing daylight as a spatial quality beyond energy-driven metrics.

Concept

Redefined Concept :

Organic motion intersects with urban activities.
(Multiculturalism)

The Light Rail Stop follows the theme of multiculturalism, located in a distinctive area, near the UNSW. In this case, first considerable note is the large amount number of  multicultural students and staffs who study or work in UNSW.  The volume of this stop is around 200 people, therefore, I created a spatial-crossing and multi-space stop structure. The other note is associating active relationship between these people, I designed a organic-movement shape to help situate the light rail stop within its urban context, translating the idea that harmony relationship between the multicultural residents in Australia, with graceful natural environment. Moreover, thinking the warm sunshine and distinctive location relationship with UNSW, I designed using the orange glass as one of the material to construct the urban-context structure.
